Locally Grown, New Jersey Vegetables & Plants
To have strong plants that survive New Jersey weather, they must be grown slowly with cool temperatures. Each must be hardened off at the nursery before planting. Otherwise, harsh sun and dry air could cause them to lose more water than their roots can provide. Additionally pesticide use must remain minimal so only the strong plants survive and people working in the greenhouse remain healthy. This is the way that the way I run my greenhouses.
Bill's Garden Center is old school integrating production and sale into a better product at a lower price.
Have you ever wondered why so many of your plants bought at the big nurseries die? Most garden centers are really middlemen who buy and sell a product that comes from someone else and often from a different climatic zone. Most plants are produced on corporate farms where the objective is to produce plants quickly, using lots of fertilizer, pesticides, heat and low light. These conditions create beautiful leafy plants that are too soft to survive the real conditions in the garden or patio even when you have done nothing wrong. Now you know that it was not always your fault.
Seeking advice for a problem in the garden? Speak to a grower, not sales personnel who have not been involved in the growing. Buy from the producer to get knowledge and a quality product at the same time.
